the tao for you, the tao for me

After being grilled yet again about what a 'Taoist' is, I decided to donate three hours today to thinking about what it means to be Taoist. First of all the Tao is something that is totally undefinable so to try to put it in terms of actions, stigmas, or norms seems impossible. There are though, general motions that Tao strives to do, these I think I can list:

1. Have no good or bad value. The reason is if one becomes good, another becomes bad. Treat everything as it is, without any preexisting value.
   
   
2. Do everything progressive. This should seem easy enough but most don't understand. This is why native cultures get destroyed. Truly peaceful and healthy civilization have no words for war or violence, they think it preposterious that anyone would act in any other than to progress as a people/species/civilization.
   
   
3. Understand the light and the dark in everything. This is the very nature of the sigil of the 'YIN-YANG', I will use predestrian words such as 'good/bad' for this one, it makes it easier to explain. Everything has both a good and a bad element to it. This is to allow us to be human. We don't have to worry about being these christian pillars of excellence because it is inhuman to act other than a human would act. Let yourself be angry, let yourself be happy.
   
   
4. Keep an open mind, don't fill it up with worries. Just consider what it takes to deal with life right now. Don't waste time and energy into worrying,hating, or stressing about stuff that can't be helped, everything will happen how it will happen.
   
   
5. Be content no matter where you are. The goal for this is if you can be not only content facing a blank wall but even happy. I am, this takes alot of mind reconfiguration but it is the greatest peice of knowledge I know.
   
   
6. Always try to be Tao, but know that the True Tao is unobtainable. Unlike other religions, Taoism has no ending place or goal. Thus allowing the person to excel to no limit.
   
   
7. Trust and Love everyone. The easiest way to make someone untrustworthy is to not trust them. Give and Love to no end. In this you will learn that giving is the gift that you give to yourself, it sounds cheesy but it works.
   
   
8. Don't be aggressive or too proactive. Let things happen let your own personal strength be your attractive quality. Don't rush or force things.
   
   
9. Learn how to control yourself sexually. True Taoists consider the female body to be the only temple. Learn how to worship it and you will be rewarded ten-fold.
   
   
10. Learn to listen to and love nature. Bow down to no god other than the one you tread upon daily. Learn to appreciate the true asthetic quality of Nature and you will be rewarded for a thousand life times.
    
    
11. Death, like birth is all part of the cycle, it is a waste of time to mourn long periods of time.
    
    
12. Understand that at base you are alive and that is all you really ever have, be happy.
